A new adventure!

It has been weeks since I've done a blog post! This is due to me setting up my very own shop which I have been planning for months now, then managed to move everything in and set up within 2 weeks. High five!

A good friend of mine, Margeaux, and I have joined forces to form Dames of Distinction. A new women's space combining a beauty salon and lingerie boutique! All in vintage style of course!
We are delighted with how it all came together and excited about our new adventure.

Here are some photos of the finished space

I also spent quite a bit of time shooting a campaign of vintage loving ladies in their favourite era of undergarments, which I will do a seperate post on soon.

So if you are in Melbourne, and a dame, please do come and visit us and we will be happy to help you with all your undergarment and beauty needs.
Located at Lvl 1, Mitchell House 358 Lonsdale St, Melbourne.

Liptember

All this month Im taking part in Liptember, to raise funds and awareness for Women's Mental Health.
Im in a group of lovely vintage wearing ladies, our team name is Vintage Vixens.
You can sponsor us here - liptember.com.au/vintage.vixens

Each year in September, Liptember has been raising awareness and donating funds to The Centre for Women's Mental Health, and we get to do it by wearing lipstick!

There is, of course, a reason why Im taking part in this. It is something very personal for me, I might not share it often or even show it, but I have been suffering from Depression and Anxiety since I was 13 years old.
Sometimes it's crippling, but most of the time Im able to fight back and have the strength to do it on a daily basis. It is such a common thing, and yet so many people still don't understand or recognise it.
It affects friendships, romantic relationships and your family. Im so lucky to have met people who can relate and understand the effect it can have on your whole life.

I started a Vintage Society here in Melbourne, which was terrifying, but Im so glad I did it and now have it as a way to make new friends and have something to look forward to.
Mostly I can be terrified of using the phone, but lately I've had to force myself to make multiple phone calls in a day and it feels great!
Im an incredibly stubborn person, so I try to use that in a positive way instead of letting it take over the negative thoughts.

The reason Im doing this is to help people to be aware that it can be happening to someone without you even noticing, or saying 'oh they're just anti-social' or 'they're lazy'. Look deeper, recognise the issue and offer help if you feel they need it, or even let them know you're there for them.

Wearing bright red lipstick for me is always such a mood booster, as is wearing vintage! I often don't care what other's think because I love it and it's for me and I think I look wonderful when Im in my vintage clothing and have on some red lipstick!

So please do sponsor whatever you can spare, every little bit helps, and spread the awareness!

housecoat or dressing gown?

A few weeks ago it was my birthday and my lovely friend gave me the most incredible 1940s housecoat! It's very teeny tiny around the waist, but I just wear a slip under it then breathe in and zip! Haha.

Isn't it amazing? I've been wanting one for such a long time.

life happenings

I have been a bit slack at blogging lately but I have been rather distracted with planning the opening of my own store! A vintage style lingerie boutique and beauty salon! I've wanted to have a shop for about 8 years now and I am finally ready to do it.
So Im going to try to document our set up as much as possible to post on here.
Here is our wonderful logo designed by Rebecca Hayes

She did such a wonderful job and I am so in love with it!

I've also been working away on a campaign photographing vintage loving ladies in their favourite era of undergarments! One shoot took to me to Sydney to photograph 2 beautiful Edwardian loving ladies.

Here is a look at the 1950s shoot I did on the weekend.

Next up I'll be doing the 20's, 30's and 40's to complete the set!
I really cannot wait! Please do join the Dames of Distinction facebook here.
We'll be officially open mid-september in the Melbourne cbd.

Sydney trip part 2

So I promised more photos from my trip to Sydney last week and here they are.

Look how cute Ebony is, resident cat at Katie-Louise and Eloise's house.

Oh these beauties! Such sweethearts, and so easy to photograph.

Katie-Louise and Eloise bought lots and lots of beautiful flowers for the photoshoot which made their already lovely house even more lovely! I fell in love with the original Edwardian wallpaper throughout their house. Sigh!

In the evening we all went out for drinks and a tiny bit of dancing.

We met up with Jesse and Tim of Johnny and June blog fame! Such sweethearts and it was so great meeting them after all the instagram chats and sharing we have had together, feeling like we practically knew each other already!
We also met up with Annora from Nora Finds blog, but I have no photo evidence of that...you'll just have to trust me.

After a few drinks the silly came out and so did the instagram photos. Here is one of Katie, Eloise and Myself.

It was so great finally meeting all the lovely Sydney vintage lovers! I hope I get to see them again soon...maybe in Melbourne this time!
Thanks for a great time!

Sydney trip part 1

Last week I went on a short trip to Sydney to catch up with family and friends, meet some of the Sydney vintage crew and do a little photoshoot for my store.

This is me after the photoshoot in Katie-Louise Ford's house. Such a beautiful Edwardian house!

The next day we went out for breakfast, along with her housemate Eloise, then went browsing at Marrickville Market.

Eloise drooling over a beautiful explorer's journal.

I fell in love with some of these posters and came away with 2 for myself.

Beautiful plants that I wanted but obviously couldn't take home with me.

I'll be putting up another post soon with the rest of the photos and what else I got up to while on my little holiday. I had such a lovely time and it was nice to get away for a bit.

To Victory with good hair!

I suppose this is sort of a semi-outfit post. Mostly it's just to show off my good hair, which I had done by sleeping in foam rollers all night. This rarely happens now because Im sick of my curls falling out when I next sleep on them.
So here is me with good hair, my favourite WWII Victory brooch and wearing a mid 1940s dress.

My room is a bit of a mess at the moment so I cropped most of it out. Ha!

To Victory! Bakelite and celluloid brooch found on etsy.

I look really goofy here but it was the best shot of my hair. A huge curly fringe and a puff of curls at the bottom. Ha, I think my smile often looks this goofy as the centre of my teeth don't match the centre of my mouth, thanks braces!

I am so loving winter, long sleeve dresses and jackets!
